Technical clarification on dashboard prompts

Hello Gurus,

I am here for a technical clarification rather than an issue.

I am currently working on performance optimization of a dashboard (xcelcius) report (4.1 SP 2), which is having its backend as HANA.  I am having 4 filters in my dashboard as DIVISION, GENDER, REGION, YEAR.  I am having HANA input parameters for the same from the HANA view, but I am not using that in the dashboard since it is not having list of values.  Rather, I am inserting distinct values of DIVISION, GENDER, REGION, YEAR in the excel sheet cells by creating different queries, and used these cells as labels for the combo boxes.  Now, I am having a main query where I will be passing the selection of the above 4 filters as prompt.

So, when I select different filter values for DIVISION, GENDER, REGION, YEAR, and refresh the main query, I just want to know that which of the below cases are happening in the backend?

Case-1

When I select different filter values, these filter values will be passed to the HANA views through the universe, and the only those records satisfying my filter criteria will be fetched from HANA, passing through the universe, and displayed in the dashboard report.

Case-2

Now, all the records from the HANA view are temporarily available in the Universe (since I have not selected the HANA input parameters), and when I pass the filter values as dashboard prompt, only the records satisfying my filter criteria are fetched from the Universe and displayed in the universe.

I believe that BO is not permanently staging any data.  But I am still confused on this? I just want to know whether I can improve my dashboard performance more if I use HANA input parameters? Can you guys help me on this with your experience?

Appreciate your support.

Thanks

RJ
