Unable to change the size of Filter Component

I have a dashboards file that contains many objects.  I am trying to add a filter selector but I am unable to change the size of the filter selector so that the text in the filter can be displayed fully.  However, if I create a new dashboard file and insert a filter selector, I am able to change the size of the filter selector.

Any thoughts on the problem?  Help would be much appreciated.
